A chocolate lab left alone on a July day in a hot car saved his own life by repeatedly honking the horn. The smart pup had been alone in the car for about an hour and as it got hotter he kept hitting the horn to let his owner know he needed help. The first time the dog owner heard the car horn sound she went outside and didn’t see anyone, so she went back inside. More honking got her outside again where she saw Max sitting in the driver’s seat of her car.
Cars are basically solar collectors and reach high temperatures quickly. Even if windows are left cracked, they can become very hot. During warm weather, the inside of your car can reach 120 degrees in a matter of minutes, even if you’re parked in the shade. The Humane Society cautions that leaving an animal in a hot car for even several minutes can cause exhaustion, brain damage and even death. Some people like to take their pets in the car while doing errands, but on a warm day it is better to leave them at home to avoid the risk of forgetting about them, and leaving them to suffer in an overheated car.

Why not leave your heart in San Francisco this summer? Your best buddy won’t mind. San Francisco is on its way to becoming one of the most dog-friendly cities in the country. Here are some of the pawsitively awesome fur-friendly spots the city has to offer:
Golden Gate Park-they offer an off-leash fenced park for Fido to [...]

Moving can be stressful on the entire family, but it is especially stressful on pets — where you can explain what’s happening during a move to your children, not so much with your furry friends, who can’t make heads of tails of the new changes and upheaval. As a result, pets may show signs of [...]

I love taking my pooch, Bella, with me anywhere and everywhere I go. Like most dogs, Bella loves to have free reign while she’s in the car. I know it’s not safe for the two of us or for other passengers on the road to have her cruising around in my SUV. Last week, I [...]

One of my favorite things about summer is going camping with friends, family and my furry friend. For the past 7 years, my Golden Retriever, Bella and I have spent countless nights under the stars. In order to pull a camping trip off without a hitch, there are several things you need to know before you hit the [...]

Let’s face it, no matter how careful we and our furry friends are, accidents happen. It’s important to be prepared for an emergency when your best buddy’s life could be at stake. The K-9 First Aid Kit from Ruff Wear allows you to “treat and transport” any canine in the event of an emergency. It [...]

My furry friend and I have had such a great summer. We’ve spent practically every weekend at the beach. My pet isn’t exactly a water dog and I often worry about her getting overheated. I recently found a product that keeps my pooch cool and gives me peace of mind. It’s called the Swamp Cooler [...]

My furry friend and I never miss a trip to the beach on the weekend during the summer months. Along with the obvious benefits of spending time by the water, it can be a hazardous place for our pets and it’s important to prepare for a day in the sun with your best buddy.
It’s a [...]

One of the best parts of the summer is being able to spend time outdoors with the whole family. Many pet owners choose not to bring their furry friends on a boat with them for safety reasons. Now you can bring your buddy with you and know that he’ll be safe in and on the water with the Paws Aboard Doggy Life [...]

Just when you think you’ve seen it all, you realize that maybe you haven’t… especially if you haven’t seen the PuppyPurse. I can think of several times my pup was too scared to walk in a crowed area or too tired to keep walking and would have loved for me to have scooped her up and [...]
