Ruff Surf…Dog Surfing Competition

Loews Surf Dog- goldenThe surf was up in San Diego. For the dogs that is. Saturday, May 22nd marked the 5th Annual Loews Coronado Bay Resort Surf Dog Competition. More than 65 brave competitors hit the waves while thousands of spectators cheered them on. Each dog had ten minutes to catch his or her top two waves and was scored on confidence level, length of ride and overall ability to “grip it and rip it.” Winners scored the ultimate pet vacation at Loews Coronado Bay Resort. First Place Small Dogs: Abbie, an Australian Kelpie. First Place Large Dogs: Stanley, a Chesapeake Bay Retriever. And…First Place Tandem: Kalani and Ricochet, aka the Twister Sisters, two Golden Retrievers. Congrats to all the hang 10 winners! I hope their owners gave them plenty of extra treats.

This popular competition has become a successful fundraiser for pet-related charities.  This year’s event benefitted the San Diego Police Department Canine Unit through the San Diego Police Foundation.
