Seven Perfect Pets For Families With Kids

If you’re new to the pet-owning business, it can be hard to even know where to begin! Even if you can get your children to agree on a type of pet (let alone the actual pet himself!), how can you be sure it’s the right type of pet to suit your family? Different types of animals all bring different needs and traits to the table, and this week All Women Stalk blogger Jennifer broke down a list of the top seven pet types, with pointers on care and why each pet is special. Topping the list is, of course, the perennial favorite: the dog.
How many books and movies have been written about boys and their dogs? There’s a reason for that… dogs make great pets for children. They’re loyal and friendly but they do need a lot of care. Before you bring a dog home, you need to research breeds to make sure you’re getting a dog that’s good with children. Try a Brittney Spaniel or a Labrador, but avoid a Dalmatian or a Rottweiler or Pit Bull.
Of course not everyone is a dog lover, so Jennifer notes six other cuddly–and not-so-cuddly–family additions, from the quiet fish to fuzzy hamsters (who take a lot more care than their tiny bodies would suggest, if you’re up for the challenge). But Jennifer reminds readers that the important thing is to take your time when it comes to choosing, and ultimately you will find one that you will truly love.
