Top 5 Dogs of 2009
The NBC Today show did a cool segment on America’s Favorite Pooches a couple of days ago. The American Kennel Association always ranks the breeds each year for popularity. I was excited to see that my beagle Oliver’s breed came in as number five! Beagles are know for their “merry” personalities, but keep in mind they need companionship and exercise. Coming in 4th place was the well-loved Golden Retriever. Such friendly pups and they are usually easily trained. If you are thinking of making a golden your new pet, remember they shed quite a bit with that long coat and need to be brushed. 3rd place went to the Yorkshire Terrier. A much smaller breed makes them easy to transport with a bit feisty, yet great temperament. The German Shepherd ranked 2nd place. German Shepherds are known for their loyalty and protective qualities and make great guard dogs as well as family pets. And…finally, the most popular pet coming in at 1st place was the labrador retriever. Labs have always been an American favorite. I wonder if the movie Marley and Me pushed labs to first place? What’s your favorite, we would love to hear?
