Top Eleven Underrated Television Pets

We can be all too familiar with the main characters of our favorite TV shows, but sometimes their most faithful sidekicks can end up falling by the wayside. Just for fun, Sarah Han of the San Francisco Chronicle used the Eleven Things column to give some recognition to television pets deemed deserving of some extra love and affection from audiences over the years. Topping the list? Lucky, the cat that got away from a true connoisseur:

I feel for the kitty that lives with an alien whose favorite food is cat. In the end his name proves apt: The Luck-meister dies of natural causes – and not from being ingested by ALF.

Who else makes the list? Brain from Inspector Gadget and Snowball from The Simpsons hold down two different demographics on the animated front, while Bear (the chimp half of BJ and the Bear) and Mister Rogers’ goldfish provide a sampling of live pet action. It’s an imperfect list — when it comes to Friends, Joey and Chandler’s apartment duck seems much more deserving of “underrated pet” status than Ross’s movie star monkey buddy Marcel — but anything paying homage to classics like Barkley is all right with us.
