Who Will Be The Lucky “First Dog”? Obamas Close To Final Decision
It has been narrowed down to two final candidates; the Labradoodle and the Portuguese water dog. It may seem like silly news, but if you’re a dog lover this is a hot topic that many are debating over. Ever since his campaign started, President-Elect Barack Obama promised his daughters, win or lose, they could get a new family pet. One of the reasons they have selected these two breeds is because they are good for those with allergies, like the Obamas’ 10 year old daughter.
The next big issue is whether they should buy a purebred puppy or rescue a pooch from a shelter. If PETA has their way, the Obamas will make the right choice by giving a homeless dog a new life. Animal advocates all over the world are urging the Obamas to take a stance by choosing to adopt versus contributing to the puppy mill problem in this country. Opinions on this subject are endless, but popular choice seems to be to go with a shelter or a rescue organization. I even discovered numerous websites dedicated to this dog dilemma, one in particular is called www.obamafamilydog.com.
Who would you elect? I’m partial to beagles, so I don’t have a preference either way. The decision will be made soon, but the Obamas’ daughters will have the final vote.
