Dog Days of Summer
My furry friend and I never miss a trip to the beach on the weekend during the summer months. Along with the obvious benefits of spending time by the water, it can be a hazardous place for our pets and it’s important to prepare for a day in the sun with your best buddy.
It’s a good idea to pack a few items to guarantee a great day at the beach. These items include towels for drying your wet pooch, a bowl and lots of water, pick-up-bags, a dog first aid kit and sunscreen if your dog has light skin or short hair. An umbrella or tent is also a good idea because the sand often gets hot and can burn your best friend’s paws. Your pup’s favorite snacks and a water toy or two would make his time by the water even more enjoyable.
It’s also a good idea to make sure your dog has solid recall if you let it off its leash. Aside from the crowds that usually come with a day at the beach, there often are also joggers, rollerbladers and cyclists.
Other potential hazards include fishhooks, dead fish, garbage and broken glass. It’s a good idea to inspect the area before letting your furry friend play. So, as you can see, it’s easy to have a fun-filled day with your pet, you just need to plan ahead to make sure there won’t be any surprises.
